NEW APPLICANTS must submit 1 GOOD photo of the actual panel they wish to exhibit with an explanation of mediums used. Also include a brief biographical paragraph, a head shot, a website or FB/Instagram page to view your work, a list of artists from whom you have taken classes or classes you have taught and where, and why you want to participate in Salon.
SUBMISSION DEADLINE – The Exhibition panel must be submitted by February 22, 2021 — 28 days prior to the registration deadline. It’s preferred that your application panel coincide with the theme — American Regionalism, but it is not mandatory. Your application must be sent by email to host
Margaret von Kaenel
Paint your interpretation of the Salon theme in a technique or style that you do well. Salon is looking for classical elements of decorative painting, not a simple wall glaze or plaster finish.
PANEL SPECIFICATIONS – Exhibition and Demonstration PANEL SIZE is limited to 40in (101cm) WIDE by 72in (183 cm) TALL or less. Panel substrates may include: canvas, light weight canvas, window shade material, mylar, frosted drafting film, paper, mirror. Oil, acrylic and water color are typically the paint mediums used. One can also use metal leaf. Keep in mind that you want to paint on something that is easily rolled up for ease of transportation.
Once your application has been submitted, it will be forwarded to Salon board members for review and acceptance. Acceptance will be notified by email.
Each participant will hang their panel in the space provided by the Host. Each participant has the opportunity to demonstrate their technique and is given a small area in which to paint using their medium and substrate of choice. Salon Saint Louis does NOT provide substrates upon which to paint – you must provide/bring your own. If one does not want to demonstrate, they may work on the Collaborative Mural. Paintings done by participants remain their individual property. The Collaborative Mural is donated to the recipient of the Host’s choice.
If you have questions, please email Margaret von Kaenel
